Napoleonic Koblenz

Following the French Revolution in 1789, Koblenz became a centre for royalist French refugees including the French King Louis XVI's two younger brothers, the Comte de Provence and the Comte d'Artois. A French Royalist army was raised which, with Prussian and Austrian allies, took part in a failed invasion of France in 1792, leading to retribution in 1794 when Napoleonic French troops under General Marceau marched into Koblenz. Koblenz became part of the French Republic in 1801 according to the Treaty of Lunéville.
