Napoleonic Koblenz

Following the outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789, Koblenz became a centre for royalist French refugees including  the French King Louis XVI's two younger brothers, the Comte de Provence and the Comte d'Artois. Louis XVI's cousin, the Prince of Condé, rasied an army willing to fight against the French Revolution and the "Army of Condé" with an allied army of Prussian and Austrian soldiers invaded France in 1792 bt ultimately failed leading to retribution when Napoleonic French troops under General François Séverin Marceau marched into Koblenz in 1794. After the occupation, Koblenz became part of the French Republic in 1801 following the Treaty of Lunéville. France's eastern border was the Rhine. At the beginning of 1814, the French troops were forced to withdraw, and this era came to an end.
