Thematic city tour:
Koblenz in Transition
(2000 to present)
Planning-Building- Investment
Since the planning for the Federal Garden Show 2011 (BUGA) began, the city of Koblenz has changed significantly. Over the past 20 years it has undergone a remarkable upgrade.
During my guided tour, I will explain urban planning processes, the course of construction measures, public and private investment projects. We will cover urban development using the city of Koblenz as an example, based on projects that have been realized, are under construction and are currently planned.
What planning, evaluation, and decision-making processes take place between investors, architects, local government, and the political bodies of a city?
Why is one building being demolished while another building just a few meters away is undergoing a major renovation?
What considerations guide the city of Koblenz in redesigning its streets and public open spaces/city squares?
What other infrastructure investments are necessary for a city to function (gas, electricity, water, sewage, telecommunications, public transport)?
Traffic planning: the balancing process between car traffic, pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Accessibility and safety in public spaces.
Which construction projects were realized in downtown Koblenz for and after the 2011 Federal Garden Show? What lasting impact did the 2011 Federal Garden Show have on Koblenz?
The (true) story of the cable car – from initial considerations before the BUGA to the present day.
What investments planned for the city center?
And the question always remains: what was it like many decades ago? And how do these planning, construction, and investment processes work today?
